The Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chennai, The Madras Film Society and the ICA Foundation organise
a Festival of Italian Films from November 22 to 27 at the Film Chamber Theatre, Gemini Circle. The festival opens with
“Parlami d’amore” on November 22, 6.15 p.m. It is followed by “L’aria Salata”.
Watch “Death in Venice” (“Morte a Venezia”) on November 23. The story is based on a novel by Thomas Mann and is
about a German composer who is terrified that he lost all vestiges of humanity. The highlight of the film is its haunting
soundtrack.
On November 24, 6. 30 p.m., the film “La Sconosciuta” will be screened. A story of sexual slavery, retaliation and greed.
“Uno Su Due” (November 25, 6.15 p.m.) is a drama about a brash lawyer who comes face to face with mortality when a
sudden blackout forces him to the hospital. It will be followed by “I Demoni Di San Pietroburgo” which tells the story
of Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky,
On November 26, 6 .15 p.m. watch “Private”, a minimalist psychological drama about a Palestinian family of seven
that’s suddenly confronted with a volatile situation at home — in many ways it reflects the larger ongoing Palestine-Israel
conflict. In “Nuovomondo” that follows, the poor Mancuso family emigrates from Italy to the U.S.
On November 27, 6.15 p.m., the film “Liberi” will be screened. It centres on the freckle-faced Vince, whose life in a
Roman mountain village is unfulfilling. The festival is wrapped up with the screening of “Lezioni Di Volo” which tells the
story of two 18-year-old friends, Pollo and Curry. For details call 24958691.
