ONE NIGHT, TWO DAYS IN YELAGIRI
Yelagiri Hills is for easy-paced, relaxed weekends; an ideal getaway from the hustle, bustle and madness of the city. No
Internet, no mobile phones and no deadlines. Just relax! Put your feet up; catch up on some reading in this quiet
environment, where the only sound you'll hear is the chirping of birds. You are the master of all that you survey. It is about
150 km from Bangalore and 250 km from Chennai. At Yelagiri, you can do just about anything you want. For instance, you
could trek up those rugged hillocks or go on long walks through narrow roads, explore the green surroundings of this rural
retreat. Or perhaps you'd like to head towards the lake nearby for some leisure boating or just squat on a bench in the
adjoining children's park and watch the kids play away to glory.

Morning departure around 7 am from any one of your convenient place. After Breakfast at 8.30am, proceed to Yelagiri and
arrival at 01.30 am in Yelagiri.
How to get there? The drive from Chennai to Yelagiri will take 4 to5 hours. The nearest railway station is Jolarpettai. It takes
approximately half-an-hour to one hour from Vellore.

Places of interest in Yelagiri
Punganoor Lake:
Perhaps the most popular landmark of Yelagiri Hills is the lake. Most visitors to the Hills tend to take the short walk from
their lodgings and perhaps, go on a boat ride. The park adjoins the lake and is an ideal outing for kids to play around. Inside
the garden play materials for children are available to recreate the kids.
Herbal farm:
Near the Punganoor Lake, a herbal farm is maintained by the forest department with rare herbals used in Siddha and
Ayurvedic medical treatments.
Jalagamparai Waterfalls:
The River Attaaru, runs through the valleys of Yelagiri Hills, and at the village of Jadaiyanoor, flows over to form the waterfall.
It's perhaps the only distant spot from the main town (over 30 kilometres) and fairly frequented by visitors to the Hills. It is
an ideal place for groups picnic. Jalagamparai Waterfalls is also an ideal place to go on a day long trek.
Murugan Temple:
Lord Murugan temple is situated in one of the highest peaks of Yelagiri Hills offers a panoramic view. Drop by at the Murugan
temple to offer prayers and invoke blessings from the deity. For whatever its worth, a trip or even a trek to the holy spot is
bound to invigorate energy, health and peace of mind.
Nature Park
A well-laid out park with fountains, gardens, artificial falls, a green house nursery, rock gardens, indoor games and a host of
other activities provide for an active as well as delightful time.
Swamimalai:
Famous Murugan temple is situated here. It is about 6 kilometer from Punganoor.

Talakona is located on Nerabailu – Talakona B.T. Road and 23 Km away from Bhakarapet of Yerravaripalem Mandal of Chittoor District, AP. It is located 59 Km from Tirupati.

Talakona is bountifully endowed with nature in the form of hills and valleys of Eastern Ghats. Talakona was declared as Bio-Sphere Reserve during 1989-90 because of wide variety of plant species with high site quality. Lord Siddeswara Swamy Temple is in this area. Talakona means “the head of the Seshachalam hills” and as such named as “TALAKONA”, it is known as “sacred hood” of serpant god.

The best season to visit here is November to June.
Flora: The area is a heaven for botanists with lot of bio-diversity . The area has as many as 1500 species belonging to 176 families of vascular plants. Perhaps the most famous is the Red Sanders which is endemic to this region. Sandal wood is also an important species of this area.

Fauna: The Talakona forests harbour certain threatened and endangered animals like Slender Loris, Indian Giant Squirrel, Mouse Deer, Golden Gecko, Yellow browed Bulbul and varieties of Butterflies. Golden Gecko is discovered after 100 years. Leapoard, wolf, Wild Dog, Sloth Bear, Porcupine, Pangolin, Wild Boar, Chinkara, Four-Horned Antelope, Chital and Sambar are some of the more common animals found in this area.

COMING ATTRACTION……..TIME FOR PANTOMIME

The Little Theatre, known for its annual Christmas pantomimes, is back with “Robinson Crusoe — Spaced Out”. . A pantomime takes its themes from traditional folk tales and other children’s stories. And, good vs. bad is the recurring theme.
This year, it is the turn of Robinson Crusoe to come alive on stage. ‘Robinson Crusoe — Spaced out’ will be performed at The Museum Theatre over ten shows from December 11 to 16. The first day is reserved for underprivileged children. The Madras Players in association with Vasanthi Sankaranarayanan and Nirmala Seshadri present ‘Outcaste Eternal’, a
dance theatre production, on November 21, 7.15 p.m., at the Museum Theatre, Egmore. ‘Outcaste Eternal’ is based on
the Malayalam novel ‘Brushtu’ by Matampu Kunhukuttan, It depicts the true-life story of the sexual revenge a lone
woman, Paptikutty, wreaks on a whole community (early 1900s), which is rigid, oppressive and anti-woman. Her action
resulted in many social reforms in Kerala. Comprising a cast of 16 actors and dancers, the predominant style of dance is

The Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chennai, The Madras Film Society and the ICA Foundation organise
a Festival of Italian Films from November 22 to 27 at the Film Chamber Theatre, Gemini Circle. The festival opens with
“Parlami d’amore” on November 22, 6.15 p.m. It is followed by “L’aria Salata”.
Watch “Death in Venice” (“Morte a Venezia”) on November 23. The story is based on a novel by Thomas Mann and is
about a German composer who is terrified that he lost all vestiges of humanity. The highlight of the film is its haunting
soundtrack.
On November 24, 6. 30 p.m., the film “La Sconosciuta” will be screened. A story of sexual slavery, retaliation and greed.
“Uno Su Due” (November 25, 6.15 p.m.) is a drama about a brash lawyer who comes face to face with mortality when a
sudden blackout forces him to the hospital. It will be followed by “I Demoni Di San Pietroburgo” which tells the story
of Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky,
On November 26, 6 .15 p.m. watch “Private”, a minimalist psychological drama about a Palestinian family of seven
that’s suddenly confronted with a volatile situation at home — in many ways it reflects the larger ongoing Palestine-Israel
conflict. In “Nuovomondo” that follows, the poor Mancuso family emigrates from Italy to the U.S.
On November 27, 6.15 p.m., the film “Liberi” will be screened. It centres on the freckle-faced Vince, whose life in a
Roman mountain village is unfulfilling. The festival is wrapped up with the screening of “Lezioni Di Volo” which tells the
